چکیده

ABSTRACT This study aimed evaluate energetic mobilization in tambaqui submitted to fasting, after a one-day refeeding. 120 juveniles were distributed 12 310L polyethylene boxes. Three treatments evaluated: Control (14 days of feeding); Fasting for 14 days; and Refeeding (13 fasting one day feedback). After the experimental period, fish anesthetized with eugenol blood collection serum plasma used measure glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol protein. Subsequently, euthanized remove liver mesenteric fat determine hepatic glycogen lipid index. The results ANOVA means compared by Tukey test when statistical significance was observed (P <0.05). Glucose, triglycerides protein decreased differing statistically control. resulted recovery three indicators. Liver analysis shows consumed intensely during partially recovered refeeding, control group. obtained this suggest that 14-day fast not harmful are able quickly adjust their metabolism according nutritional status.

A Study on the Serum Levels of Angiogenic Factors in Response to Acute Long-term Submaximal Exercise in Sedentary Men

Introduction: Exercise training increases skeletal muscle capillary density, but the molecular mechanisms of this process are not yet clear. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of acute long- term submaximal exercise on serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as the main angiogenic factor, and matrix metalloproteinases 2 and 9 ( MMP-2 and MMP-9), as the degradi...

The effects of long-term fasting and subsequent refeeding on digestive physiology and energy metabolism

of fasting are experienced by numerous subterranean (i.e. hypogean) aquatic organisms, as many groundwater ecosystems are characterized yearly by severely limited food supplies due to lack of autotrophic production and sporadic allochthonous input (Poulson, 1964; Hüppop, 1985; Hervant et al., 1997). Even in highly productive hypogean biotopes, food resources may be extremely patchy (Malard and ...

Hepatic adaptations to maintain metabolic homeostasis in response to fasting and refeeding in mice

BACKGROUND The increased incidence of obesity and associated metabolic diseases has driven research focused on genetically or pharmacologically alleviating metabolic dysfunction. These studies employ a range of fasting-refeeding models including 4-24 h fasts, "overnight" fasts, or meal feeding. Still, we lack literature that describes the physiologically relevant adaptations that accompany chan...

Plasticity of adipose tissue in response to fasting and refeeding in male mice

BACKGROUND Fasting is the most widely prescribed and self-imposed strategy for treating excessive weight gain and obesity, and has been shown to exert a number of beneficial effects. The aim of the present study was to determine the exact role of fasting and subsequent refeeding on fat distribution in mice. METHODS C57/BL6 mice fasted for 24 to 72 h and were then subjected to refeeding for 72...
